Ohio 15th Watch

Steve Stivers came to power on a wave of tea party energy, which propelled him above progressive stalwart Mary Jo Kilroy, who lined up perfectly with Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid and Barack Obama. We need to be mindful. While Stivers has voted better than Kilroy ever did, he has made some votes that make you wonder, “what was he thinking?”  This page will contain links to that legislation and the votes which give us uncomfortable flashbacks to the time when Mary Jo Kilroy “represented” Ohio’s 15th district. I encourage you to contact Rep Stivers and let him know where you stand on these issues. I am one man and cannot do it alone! Please contact me if you know of an issue like this that needs attention.

— “Budget (Outta) Control Act approved by Stivers

In what could be called THE Tea Party vote of 2011, the most powerful opportunity to refuse to continue deficit spending as usual, to stand up against Obama and Congressional progressives’ constant parade of successful fearmongering build on lies, Steve Stivers dropped the ball, surrendered to the fear mongering and leadership pressure to accept a destructive “compromise” giving Obama everything he wanted (the debt ceiling increased beyond the election). Despite a mailer received by my parents, the bill is not only NOT perfect, it does absolutely nothing to address the spending, other than to attempt to bind future congresses to a reduction in the RATE at which spending increases. And they have the audacity to call that a decrease in spending! And on top of that, Obama gets 2 trillion dollars of OUR money to play with in the mean time. Another lie in the mailer is that the new Congress held Washington accountable by ending the practice of government blank checks. What part of Obama getting 2 trillion dollars in new credit extension does he not understand? In a mail, Stivers noted support of H.Res. 38 to reduce non-security spending to fiscal year 2008 levels. Does anyone seriously think 2008 was government restrained? Stivers really let us down on this vote. This is the height of fiscal insanity and the perpetuation of the status quo. Leaders like Ron Paul, Michelle Bachmann, and Jim Jordan got this vote right. Why couldn’t Stivers?

+Debt reduction bill recently introduced by Steve Stivers (HR2214)

Steve Stiver’s introduced a bill to allow tax payers to donate their tax dollars (that would otherwise be refunded as overpayment) towards paying down the national debt. The bill is refreshingly short.

-Stivers voted to extend federal grants to veterinarians.

Vote

Here is the email I sent to him:

Dear Stivers,

Why do you think veterinarians need federal grants for studies? I speak as a board member of the Union County 9/12 and we are in general agreement that voting to support government health care training for veterinarians is not why we as individuals supported you. We do not want federal funding of pet doctors, we didn’t even want it for people doctors! If I am correct, these grants were created by the “obamacare” legislation. Tiberi and Jordan did the right thing and voted against this expansion of an extra-constitutional government program.

Sincerely,

Michael Wolfe
Union County 9/12
Union County Republican Central Committee Member

Here is the Bill.

The federal government has no Constitutional authority to either enhance or increase the training of veterinarians! The government is hemorrhaging red ink and over 90 republicans ignored the sentiment that swept them into office and voted to expand government spending. This is inexcusable! Jim Jordan and Tiberi got this vote right.
